5 of the Coolest Music Industry Internships

Getting into the Music Industry can be tricky, but it doesn’t have to be. Internships allow for you, and companies, to test out the waters and see if that job or area is the right fit. They allow you to find out what it is you want to do without the stress of being stuck there for the rest of your life. Here are five of the coolest music industry internships we found.

Warner Music Emerging Talent Associate Program

The Warner Music Group’s Emerging Talent Associate Program (ETA) is a paid internship that gives students the opportunity to get real experience in the music industry. With multiple WMG companies across the country participating, students have countless areas they could work in. Fall applications are open June-August, spring is open September-November, and summer is open March-May.

This is not an entry-level internship, as it requires at least two other internships in the music, media, or entertainment industry. You must also be enrolled in a four-year, accredited college/university in the US, be a junior, senior, or graduate-level student, commit to at least 20 hours, and up to 29 hours, per week, and be passionate and knowledgeable about the music industry.

Fan To Band Internship Program

A relatively new company, Fan To Band is all about getting fans into the music industry. They have three different unpaid internships: fan engagement, digital marketing, and business development. Their application for the Fall Internship is currently closed, but their street team is almost always accepting applications. What I think is unique about them is their focus on fans; both the ideas fans come up with and the skills fans have that they’ve honed over years in fandoms.

Their base requirements are very simple, which is great for people looking for their first internship. All you need is availability to work 2–3 days remotely, passion for the music industry, and strong knowledge of fan culture. They also have an online street team that you can apply to if you want something that’s more laid back.

Sirius XM has no shortage of internships to choose from this fall, from PR to programming to producing there is something for you. All of their current programs are remote and are paid internships. Their needs vary from program to program, but at the very least you have to be over 18 years old and enrolled at a college, or graduated within 12 months before the start of the program. No matter which program you apply to you are bound to get some top-notch experience while at “one of the world’s largest audio entertainment companies”.

Headcount Music and Politics Internship

Headcount is a different program than everything else here, but it is one that deserves to be here. Located in Manhattan, Headcount works with artists and venues to register voters and promote participation in democracy. As a Music and Politics Intern, you would attend concerts and register voters, create content, participate in community outreach, and more. Interns need to be working towards a degree in a related field, know how to work MS Office programs, and be willing to work at least 15 hours a week during business hours. They aren’t currently accepting applications for the fall anymore, but keep your eyes peeled for their opening for the spring.
