We’ve all been there. The top of the charts are filled with songs you’d usually avoid listening to, radios are playing these songs over and over and before you know it, you wish you could go back to a different time when music seemed better. That is why we are taking a trip down memory lane and revisiting the best timeless songs of the 2000s.

SHAKIRA — HIPS DON’T LIE (FEAT. WYCLEF JEAN)

Released in 2005 by the Colombian Queen of pop Shakira, “Hips Don’t Lie” is still extremely popular nearly 20 years on. The song was written by several people and features vocals from Wyclef Jean, a Haitian rapper best known for this particular 2000s tune. “Hips Don’t Lie” is arguably one of the most famous songs to come out of this era and falls into the salsa and pop genres, making it an easy listen as well as being a great song to dance to.

THE BLACK EYED PEAS — MEET ME HALFWAY

One of the many smash hits from The Black Eyed Peas, “Meet Me Halfway” is the 3rd single from their studio album The E.N.D., released in 2009. The song samples Yeah Yeah Yeah’s “Maps” and despite the sampling of this 2003 track, “Meet Me Halfway” carries a sense of originality and was a breath of fresh air in the music charts at the time of its release. It isn’t daring to say that if this song was released now, it would definitely be a chart-topper.

THE FRAY — HOW TO SAVE A LIFE

“How to Save a Life” is certified as being the fourth best-selling rock song in digital history, making it one of The Fray’s most popular airplay songs. The chart-topper was released in 2006 and was written by Isaac Slade and Joe King, both members of the band, which holds the deep meaning of troubled teenagers not being able to be helped by others. “How to Save a Life” still remains iconic from the second it starts playing, with its unique piano intro instantly having an emotional impact on the listener.

ESTELLE (FEAT. KANYE WEST) — AMERICAN BOY

Sampled from will.i.am’s “Impatient”, “American Boy” was released by Estelle in 2008, featuring vocals and production from Kanye West. This song is a trademark of the 2000s era and the music video is nothing short of that either, featuring the likes of John Legend and Kardinal Offishall in a black and white early 2000s style setting.

MAROON 5 — THIS LOVE

Last but certainly not least on this list is Maroon 5’s “This Love”, the band’s first notable track released back in 2002. The American band are still releasing music nearly 20 years on, however their sound has drastically evolved and sadly nothing comes close to the quality of this song along with the album it is from, Songs About Jane.
